### Lesson Plan: Identifying the Parts of the Computer
**Grade Level:** Primary 1
**Subject:** Information Communication Technology (ICT)
**Topic:** Identifying the Parts of the Computer
---
#### Objective:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Identify and name basic parts of the computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU).
2. Understand the basic function of each part.
---
#### Materials Needed:
- A computer with all necessary parts (monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU)
- Flashcards/pictures of computer parts
- Interactive Smartboard or whiteboard
- Crayons/colored pencils
- Worksheet with images of the computer parts to color and label
---
#### Teacher Preparation:
1. Set up a computer unit at the front of the classroom for demonstration purposes.
2. Prepare flashcards/pictures of each computer part.
3. Create a simple worksheet with images of the computer parts for students to color and label.
---
#### Lesson Procedures:
**1. Introduction (10 minutes)**
- Greet the students and ask them if any of them have seen or used a computer before.
- Briefly discuss how computers help us in many ways, like playing games, drawing, and learning new things.
**2. Direct Instruction (15 minutes)**
- **Part 1:** Show the computer set up and point to each part while naming them: monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU.
- **Monitor**: The screen we look at to see things on the computer.
- **Keyboard**: The set of keys we press to type letters and numbers.
- **Mouse**: The device we move to control the cursor on the screen.
- **CPU (Central Processing Unit)**: The "brain" of the computer where all processing happens.
- Use flashcards/pictures to reinforce the visual names of the parts. Hold up each flashcard and ask students to repeat the name after you.
**3. Guided Practice (15 minutes)**
- Choose students to come up one at a time to point to the parts of the computer as you call them out.
- Have students sit in small groups and hand out flashcards. Let them play a quick matching game where they match a flashcard of the part to the actual part on the computer setup.
**4. Independent Practice (Worksheet Activity) (15 minutes)**
- Hand out the worksheet with the images of the computer parts.
- Allow the students to color the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU with crayons or colored pencils.
- Once colored, guide the students to label each part with the correct name (monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU). Provide help as needed.
**5. Closure (5 minutes)**
- Recap the lesson by asking students to name the parts of the computer one more time.
- Ask a few students to share one thing they learned about each part.
- Praise the students for their participation and learning.
---
#### Assessment:
- Observe students during the guided practice to ensure they can correctly identify the parts of the computer.
- Check the completed worksheets to ensure that students have correctly colored and labeled each part.
#### Extension Activity:
- For students who grasp the basics quickly, introduce additional parts such as the printer, speakers, and webcam.
- If appropriate, allow students to take turns using the mouse and keyboard to perform simple tasks on the computer, like moving the cursor or typing their name.
#### Differentiation:
- Provide extra assistance to students who may struggle with identifying and naming computer parts.
- Use a buddy system to pair students with peers who can provide support.
---
**Note:** Always ensure that students handle computers and related equipment carefully under supervision.
